Quinta da Alameda and IPV Sign Agreement for Cardoon Cultivation and Research

Santar, 25 February 2025 — Quinta da Alameda and the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu (IPV), through the Agrarian School (ESAV), have signed a collaboration agreement to establish, maintain, and research a cardoon field at Quinta da Alameda.

This initiative will continue scientific research and technological development projects already under way, while promoting agricultural innovation and adding value to cardoon cultivation in the Dão region.

Effective from 25 February 2025, the agreement provides for the relocation of plants by IPV/ESAV and the creation of an experimental cardoon field at Quinta da Alameda. The project strengthens sustainability and innovation in the region and will serve as a platform for applied research, technological development, and hands-on training for students.

The agreement also stipulates that ESAV will provide technical-scientific support, staff training, and regular oversight. Quinta da Alameda will supply the resources required for planting and maintaining the cardoon field, including the provision of plant biomass for ongoing projects.

This protocol brings science and agricultural practice together, with a clear focus on applying scientific knowledge to the sector’s concrete challenges. The partnership unites tradition and progress by harnessing local resources and advancing more sustainable practices.
