Quinta da Alameda

Oenology and nature, in the lands of Santar

“Quinta da Alameda is defined by its terroir. From here emerges a pure expression of Dão.”

Our History

The history of Alameda intersects three centuries. Its foundation under its current name dates back to 1826, the year when the property was acquired by the ancestors of the Borges da Gama family from the Counts of Santar. Today, with atmospheric presence, its beautiful winegrowing landscape demands to be admired from Torreão of Alameda, our charismatic tower. In its early days, this architectural landmark served as a vantage point for overseeing the surrounding agricultural work. With that purpose now long gone, the tower stands as a symbol of Alameda’s reverence for the values and traditions of the Dão region.

Terroir

With a truly remarkable agroforestry mosaic, Quinta da Alameda benefits from the finest terroir in the Dão. A land of graceful and aristocratic wines, it is among the most privileged in Portugal for vine cultivation.

In a single landscape, the whole of Dão.

Dão Region

Set upon a vast granite plateau and sheltered by a ring of mountains, the Dão is one of Portugal’s most distinguished wine regions. In a landscape woven with pine forests, its vineyards give rise to wines of timeless elegance, singular character and refined sophistication.

Quinta da Alameda - Vinhas ao Entardecer

A true exponent of the illustrious Encruzado and Touriga Nacional grape varieties, the Dão is a land where ancient mountain ranges preside over a landscape of rugged beauty and angular character. Yet the wines born of this terrain are anything but rugged or angular. Quite the opposite — our region is the cradle of wines defined by grace and perfect balance. Here, winemaking softens the harder edges of the terroir to reveal an essence shaped by refinement, delicacy and pleasing texture. In the end, the mark of this land endures only in the wines’ vibrant acidity, granite-driven minerality and subtle aromatic complexity — wines with an uncommon capacity to age and remarkable gastronomic potential.
